Daumantas Kirilauskas is an associate professor in piano department of Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy. He is constantly characterized as one of the most distinct, versatile and productive pianists of the country.
The pianist had concerts in halls of almost every European country, also in USA and Canada – Mozarteum Grosser Saal, Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, Leipcig Gewandhaus, Schumann Haus Bonn, Vitebsk Philharmonic, Helsinky Temppeliauki, Nybrokajen in Stockholm, Oslo Concerthus, Köln WDR Klaus von Bismarck, The Great Guild Hall in Riga and other among them. Being a permanent guest of Lithuanian National Philharmonic he performed with all Lithuanian orchestras as well as Sinfonietta Riga, Lappeenranta City Orchestra. He is a participant of many foreign and Lithuanian festivals, the regular guest of Thomas Mann festival.
Daumantas‘ repertoire begins with Bach and Händel and continues with the most modern compositions of the 21st century. Beethoven takes up a special place in his creational life. Apart from solo playing the pianist had many chamber performances with famous Lithuanian and foreign soloists, ensembles including Vienna Artis-Quartett in 2008. He is a participant of numerous premieres. In 2005 Daumantas Kirilauskas was the first in Lithuania to perform the Chick Corea‘s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. In 2010 the premiere of Miklos Maros Concerto for Piano and Orchestra dedicated to Daumantas took place. In 2013 one more premiere- Tomas Kutavičius “Divine Madness” for piano and symphony orchestra was performed at the international “Gaida” festival.
The pianist has released 11 solo albums, including all J. S. Bach Partitas, 3 Keyboard Concertos, 9 Beethoven Piano Sonatas, Diabelli Variations op. 120, 3 Prokofiev Piano Sonatas, lot of contemporary music.
The ownership of near the two hundred Daumantas‘ recordings belongs to Lithuanian Radio. The pianist also cooperates with the film and theater artists, composer Giedrius Puskunigis. His piano playing sounds in a number of films, theater performances.
Daumantas is also a valuable professor. Alongside working with his piano class he has led masterclasses in Music and Visual Arts‘ Academy of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, United Kingdom, Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, Germany, University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia. He has worked as a jury member at the Bach Competition of Young Pianists in Vilnius and Plovdiv, the Balys Dvarionas joung pianists competition.
After finishing the Art School of M.K. Čiurlionis (1991) he went on with his studies at Salzburg Mozarteum University, from which he graduated with the highest evaluation achieving the Art Master‘s Degree. His teachers were Liucija Drąsutienė (from 1984 till 1994) and the legendary Karl-Heinz Kämmerling (from 1994 till 2000).
Daumantas is the winner of many national and international prizes including the 1st prize in the International Maria Canals Competition of Young Pianists, Barcelona in 1991. The same year he received the diploma of the first International M.K. Čiurlionis‘ Pianists‘ Competition, also the diploma with the autograph of the Princess Diana of the New Port International Pianists‘ Competition, London in 1994 and the Boesendorfer prize in Vienna, in 1997. Daumantas Kirilauskas was awarded with the premium of the Austrian Ministry of Culture in 2000 and granted with the Congratulatory Letter of the President Valdas Adamkus in 2005.
The pianist is also very familiar with jazz. He is the Grand-Prix winner of the International Competition-Festival „Jazz Improvisation 1992“, Vilnius.
